In poker, certain combinations of cards (hands), outrank other hands.
The ranking is based on the odds that these could appear.
The player with the best poker hand at the showdown wins the pot.
Although used in poker, these hand rankings are also used in a variety of other card games.

Five cards in sequence all the same suit |

Four cards of the same denomination |

Three cards of one denomination and two cards of another denomination. |

Five cards all in the same suit |

Five cards of any suit in sequence |

| Three of a Kind |
Three cards of the same denomination and two unmatched cards |
|
| Two Pairs |
Two sets of two cads of the same denomination and any fifth card |
|
| Pair |
Two cards of the same denomination and any three unmatched cards. |
|
| High Card |
If no-one has any of the above hands the player with the highest card wins. |
